sense and nonsense

Today is 5.1.01, the time is 2:51 p.m.

Frank was apparently making a Pavement CD while I was at class and left it playing. Now I'm singing, oh-ooh-hoo-hoo along with Painted Soldiers. This lifts my rained-upon mood. There is something about nonsense syllables in rock songs that makes me happy. Of course my favorite example is in the Refused song New Noise when the singer goes, Woo! Note to self: once the band starts playing together, you must insert exclamations of nonsense into at least one song.

I've been reading an awful lot. All those pages I should have read long ago are now chasing me. They are yelling, Write about us! Explicate us! Make us into a well-defined, defendable thesis! Cite us correctly! Of course I should be happy. In two weeks I will have at least a one year break from having to critically evaluate texts. I won't have to think about the ways people negotiate their positions in our race, class, gender system (as I am doing right now in 3/4 classes). Not that this isn't interesting. It's just...too much. Right now.

Well, I'm off to work with Little Katie. She makes me so proud. The way she negotiates her position in our race, class, gender system, barely knowing the words to describe it. She uses the nonsense to make sense of it all. She's the funniest person I know.
